Breast pathology diagnoses a wide range of diseases affecting breast tissue, from benign (noncancerous) changes such as fibroadenomas or cysts to malignant (cancerous) diseases such as invasive carcinoma. Breast pathologists play a critical role in determining the type and stage of breast cancer, which is critical for deciding on the appropriate treatment plan. They analyze biopsy specimens, surgical excisions, and removed lymph nodes to provide accurate diagnoses.
